Major Update and Other News
Thank you to everyone who came out to Pregamer and gave Temple Scramble a try! There is still much work for me to do before the game is ready for final release, but a lot has changed since the last time this game was shown publicly (BostonFIG 2016). Here's a quick summary:
- The game has been split into three modes of play, each representing a different chamber of the temple, containing different traps to be deployed by the Temple Spirit (now named Phulax).
- Most of the graphics have been overhauled.
- Phulax can no longer prevent the Adventurer (now named Indira) from moving at all by constantly shifting the tile she stands on.
- The win condition for Phulax is now points-based instead of time-based.
With the old version of the game, I found that new players found Phulax too difficult to play, but that more experienced players often found strategies as Phulax that made it near-impossible for Indira to win. My hope with most of these changes was to improve the balance and to make the game more accessible. Thanks to all of you who played the game at Pregamer, I now know what I need to do to better accomplish those goals.
The version from Pregamer is now available for all to download. However, before uploading it, I tweaked what i found to be the simplest and most egregious problem with the balance of the current game: the amount of spacebar presses required for Indira to build a new tile on the Bridge has now been reduced from 6 to 3. There are other balance issues that still need to be addressed, but they will take more time for me to resolve. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the new version of Temple Scramble!
